8-Minute Memoir

Day 222: Loving the World. I wrote this poem The Messenger by Mary Oliver in messy handwriting on a white board so we could see it every day in my house. I thought maybe it would change our lives. I think me and the one kid I forced to read it out loud have even looked at it. Sometimes I wonder if memorizing poetry should be something I try so that when I feel overworked anxious or mad or or small or inadequate, etc I would remember “my work is loving the world. Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird…Are my boots old? Is my coat torn? Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished.” Wrote about loving the world. Or being astonished. Or your work, whatever you think that to be. 8 minutes. That’s all. #8minutememoir #maryoliver #themessenger
