Kids! 8-Minute Memoir

Kids! Day 1: going to the dentist

March 7, 2017

Kids! Day 1: going to the dentist. Write about going to the dentist. Do you love it? Not love it? What does your dentist look like? What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you at the dentist? The worst (one time I threw up in the dentist chair! No!!!!)? If you were the dentist what would your office be like? You can draw pictures to help illustrate your dentist 8 minute memoir graphic novel style. Set a timer and write what ever comes. Parents: you can read the prompt to your younger kids and write down what they say. Try not to correct grammar or guide them too much. Having them draw pictures can help too. For older kids, if they can’t do the full 8 minutes, that’s OK. Just writing about their life, their thoughts, their questions, etc twice a week for even a minute or a sentence would be plenty when you look at it long term. It will get them in the writing and self reflection habit and they’ll be happy you did it years later. You could even post their writing and tag it so other kids could read it. I wonder if I’d written about my dentist issues as a kid maybe I wouldn’t be so terrified now. #8minutememoirkids
